WOMEX – Worldwide Music Expo – is the most international and culturally diverse music meeting in the world and the biggest conference of the global music scene, featuring a trade fair, talks, films and showcase concerts. Its musical spectrum is unparalleled in the international showcase performance market, ranging from the most traditional to the new global local underground, embracing folk, roots, jazz, local and diaspora cultures as much as urban and electronic sounds from all over the globe – making WOMEX the leading networking platform for the world music industry.

WOMEX and its community aim to support and strengthen the role of culture around the globe and to spread its values through nurturing and promoting creativity and music. As a result, the local and global music community is able to – and needs to – contribute to cross-cultural understanding in a welcoming, tolerant, diverse and productive manner.

The event remains devoted to facilitating and promoting the global music industry and providing a platform to connect, inspire and share experiences, enabling new partnerships across transcontinental markets and an open economic and international cultural dialogue.

Media & Communications Manager

In the fourth quarter of the calendar year, my responsibilities at Piranha Arts shifted from Classical:NEXT over to the WOMEX team. In this capacity, I contributed to the planning and preparation stages of realising the annual B2B event. My role here covered marketing, communications and production tasks.

Most importantly, I maintained the overall big picture of everything happening at WOMEX. Having a holistic and in-depth understanding of all aspects of the event were integral to successfully conducting the job required on-site.

Responsibilities included:
- Interviews on-site, including planning, prepping and filming
- Contribution to all social media pages
- Copywriting and proofreading
- Authoring the event guide
- Providing support to the core production and management team
- Moderation at events
- Hosting of the WOMEX Closing/Award Ceremony 2019 (Jubilee 25th edition)

In 2020, in light of the Coronavirus, the decision was made to turn WOMEX into a hybrid event. As co-head of the digital development of the event, I helped put together the digital programme and led the communication on all digital aspects of the event.
